More sad news for the photography community

It’s not fine art but do let me share this. Along with 72 civilians, Sunday Times correspondent, French Photographer Marie Colvin and World Press Photo winner Remi Ochlik, who received 1st prize in the General News Stories category in this year’s contest for his work in Libya, have been confirmed to have died in Syria earlier today.

The BBC reports that the two reporters died as after a shell hit a makeshift media centre in the Baba Amr area. Up to nine other people were also killed in the attack, and three other reporters are said to be badly injured.

burn magazine announces Emerging Photographer Fund award for 2012

burn., the online journal curated by Magnum Photographer David Alan Harvey announced its Emerging Photographer Fund award for 2012. Burn will give $10,000. to one photographer, and two smaller grants of $2500. each. The deadline for entry will be May 15, 2012.

Art of Photography Show calls for Entries!

The Art of Photography Show, which started eight years ago, is an international exhibition of photographic art at the San Diego Art Institute.

Five of the exhibiting artists were Japanese last year, Atsushi Yamada, Fumio Nabata, Photographer Hal, Kenzaburo Fukuhara, Noritaka Minami.

The exhibition will be held between September 29 – November 11, 2012. Julian Cox, the founding curator of Photography and Chief Curator de Young Museum of San Francisco will be the judge this year. There is a 2,000USD award for the 1st place.
